7 Trend-Setting Ideas for a Fun & Memorable Wedding
Weddings should be a time of celebration, love, and laughter with your closest friends, but it seems like sometimes we miss the mark on this. Today on the blog, I’m giving you 7 ideas on how to take your wedding from average to unique so you and your guests will have a blast and remember it for years to come! And the best part? Lots of these ideas are free or just require a tweaking of the budget!
1. Unique ceremony set-up
Instead of having a traditional aisle with two separate sides, try a unique chair set up. For example, put the chairs in a circle or spiral surrounding where you will say “I do” or have two isles - one to enter down and one to exit. These simple changes are completely free, unique, and will give all guests a better view. Despite the venue, the number of guests, or time of day, this is something you can do that will make your guest a more intimate part of your day.
2. Themed cocktail hour
This is a fun way to keep your guest entertained, strongly incorporate your wedding theme, and set the tone for the rest of the evening. If you’re having a intimate rustic wedding, have interactive stations such as a mini s’mores or gourmet slider stations and hire your favorite bluegrass band. If you’re having a large glamorous wedding, set the mood with passed horderves, his and hers cocktails, and a classy jazz ensemble. This is your time to set the tone for the rest of the night - so make it fun and unique!
3. Food trucks
Invite you and your partner’s favorite food truck to be apart of your special day! You can incorporate this into cocktail hour, as the main course, a late night snack, or dessert option. This can be an overall entertainment spot! Whether it is ice cream, coffee, or your favorite taco truck, your guests will love this unique food option and you will love having your favorite food there too! In order to keep the costs reasonable, give each guest a “ticket” for the food truck so they can still enjoy something for free - but don’t order 5 iced lattes on your dime.
4. Food Stations
Another alternative to a buffet or plated dinners is to have food stations set up around the room or venue. This keeps your guests socializing while also experiencing some unique favorites. Favorite options include a custom pasta bar, crepe stations, gourmet grilled cheese stations, tossed salad stations, taco stations, and more. With unique options that you and your guests can custom create, everyone is sure to love it.
5. Guest “dress code”
The aesthetics, theme, and unity that it promotes is beautiful - and it is completely free to the bride and groom! Kindly ask your guests to wear a certain color or stick to a certain theme (ex: please wear a semi formal dress in any shade of blue). This is especially beautiful at a intimate weddings - making everyone in photos look cohesive.
6. Interactive stations
Instead of simply having guests sign a guest book when they arrive, have them collectively paint a canvas, play games, write down ideas for future baby-names, or give date-night ideas to the newly weds. This will keep guests interacting, give them options if they need a break from dancing, and create a memorable experience.
7. Keep the timeline moving
This can be the most awkward part of any wedding. Guests don't know where to go, they are sitting for too long waiting for the events, or are looking for a good break to leave. First, openly communicate the sequence of events on the back of the ceremony program or have it hanging when they enter the reception space. Once in the reception, make sure your day-of coordinator, DJ, and other vendors are communicating and keeping the reception on schedule. Keep things interesting with breaks for games, cake cutting, first dances, drinks, and more.
